George Elokobi is no stranger to some of the world’s best players. The former Premier League left back has had to deal with his fair share of superstars, such as Nani, Arteta, Fabregas, Rooney, Owen and Drogba.
He’s also played with a lot of great players, such as Alex Song, Samuel Eto’o, and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
“I always humbly respect all of the players I have played with.” says George Elokobi, “Every player is great for the team in their own individual way.”
But there is one man who George Elokobi particularly loved working with, “I would have to say Matt Jarvis, we played together at Wolves.”
“I especially remember the 2010/11 season where he was absolutely unstoppable and deservedly got his call up for England.”
Matt Jarvis got 4 goals and 7 assists for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 2010/11, earning himself an England call up. He made his debut at Wembley against Ghana, receiving a merited England cap.
He continued his fine form into the 2011/12 season, netting 8 times and setting up his teammates on 6 other occasions.
George Elokobi implied there was no luck involved in his impressive Premier League form: “I saw how hard he worked every day in training.
“It wasn’t just his skills, but his work rate, and his discipline, that showed me how good he was. He was so humble and respectful.”
The duo made themselves stalwarts in the Wolves side down the left-hand side, with Elokobi in left back and Jarvis on the wing.
“I feel like we had a special relationship as I was the left back and he was left wing. In my opinion, we complemented each other so well.”
George was very complimentary of Matt Jarvis and clearly looked up to some of his qualities as well as being a great teammate to him.
Matt Jarvis has also represented West Ham in the Premier League in his career.
Before retiring, Matt Jarvis followed George Elokobi down into the National League, representing Woking FC. He now works as a pundit, and you could have seen him on the BBC, Sky Sports and BT Sport.
